This video is a recording from a program conducted by Yuttadhammo Thero explaining and introducing four basic ways of how the mind should be kept focused (sathara sathipattana) to children. Though the focused group is a group of children, instructions are good for any age.

01 Sathipattana Sutta Anapana Sathi Bhawanawa

Meditation is like cleaning your house.

You have to clean again and again. Once you purify your mind it is natural for the unattended mind to become impurified over the time, unless it is in a state that it is not falling apart from that purified state. Like a home you have to attempt and clean the mind again and again to keep it tidy and well so you can live.

With practice your mind will come to a state that it will not get any impurifications any more.

There are 5 benefits of Meditation:

  1. Path of purification

There is only one way.

There is only one straight path.

This is the four foundations of the Sathi Pattana (සති පට්ටාන)

Sathi pattana means the four parts of the reality.

Mind is like a monkey.

Mind jumps into four trees and lives in one of them at any given time. This is because its not trained. Once trained mind can be set to be focused and kept in once place.
